Biography & public record

A life shaped by challenge, opportunity and service

At 23, a collision with a moose caused a high-level spinal-cord injury and changed the course of Steven’s life. Recovery depended on family, health professionals, public institutions and community support. Those experiences became central to his belief that public service is a way to repay society and expand opportunity for others.

His record includes geological engineering, leadership of the University of Manitoba Students’ Union, four terms in the House of Commons, five years in the federal Cabinet and later service in Manitoba politics. The pages below organise that record without separating the public career from the personal experiences that shaped it.
